Groundwater & Basement Water Intrusion in Hilo, HI

Basement seepage, failed sumps and water through the slab are extracted and dried, and the path from the ground is found so the floor stays dry next season. The path from the ground is named first: through the wall, up through the slab, back through a drain, or from a sump that stopped. The space is extracted and dried, with the porous materials the water touched removed, and the delivery is addressed, because a dried floor only stays dry if the water stops arriving.

Often needed alongside

  • Structural Drying & Dehumidification

Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.

  • Emergency Water Extraction

Standing water is pumped and extracted around the clock, before it climbs the walls and soaks the subfloor. Same-day response where coverage allows.

  • Mold Inspection & Testing

An independent assessor confirms whether the assembly that got wet is actually dry, whether growth started while it was not, and how far it reaches.

Frequently asked questions

With this much rain, can a house here actually be dried?

Yes, but only as a closed system. At over 120 inches a year and no cold season, outdoor air never helps and opening the building up works against the job. The affected area is closed off and dehumidified, and readings decide the end. What does not work is any approach that relies on ventilation or on waiting for a dry spell.

The house sits on posts. Where is the drying done?

At the floor framing from below, in most cases. A raised floor puts the joists and subfloor over open ground that stays humid, so that is where the water ends up and where the equipment goes. The space is enclosed as far as practical so the dehumidification has something to work against rather than the whole outdoors.

There is no wall cavity in this house. Is that better or worse?

Better for access, worse for exposure. Single-wall construction means the framing is visible and can be read and dried directly, with no cavity hiding water. But it also means that framing faces the room and the weather with little between, so it re-wets easily and the affected area has to be closed off properly for the drying to hold.
