Sewage & Contaminated Water Cleanup in Marietta, GA

Sewage and black-water losses are contained, the materials the water touched are removed and disposed of, hard surfaces are disinfected, and the space is dried to a reading. The affected area is sealed off from the rest of the house. Porous materials the water reached come out and are bagged, with drywall cut to a margin above the visible line; hard surfaces are cleaned and disinfected. The space is then dried and read, and the containment comes down only when cleaning and drying are both finished.

Frequently asked questions

Does ivy actually damage a wall?

It does two things. The rootlets work into any joint or crack and widen it, and the leaf cover keeps the wall shaded and damp so it never dries between rains. On sound modern brickwork it is slow; on older mortar it is not.

What is found when the ivy comes off?

Usually more than expected, and it is worth being prepared for that. The rootlets stay attached to the surface when the plant is pulled, the mortar behind is often soft, and the wall has been wet continuously for however long the ivy has been there.

Is taking it off always the right move?

Taking it off and then repairing is, but taking it off and stopping is not. An ivy-covered wall has been protected from direct rain as well as kept damp, so stripping it and leaving open joints exposed can make the first winter afterward worse.
