Groundwater & Basement Water Intrusion in Rutland, VT

Basement seepage, failed sumps and water through the slab are extracted and dried, and the path from the ground is found so the floor stays dry next season. The path from the ground is named first: through the wall, up through the slab, back through a drain, or from a sump that stopped. The space is extracted and dried, with the porous materials the water touched removed, and the delivery is addressed, because a dried floor only stays dry if the water stops arriving.

Often needed alongside

  • Structural Drying & Dehumidification

Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.

  • Emergency Water Extraction

Standing water is pumped and extracted around the clock, before it climbs the walls and soaks the subfloor. Same-day response where coverage allows.

  • Mold Inspection & Testing

An independent assessor confirms whether the assembly that got wet is actually dry, whether growth started while it was not, and how far it reaches.

Frequently asked questions

What does the crown do?

It sheds water off the top of the chimney and keeps it out of the masonry. It should overhang the brick with a drip, slope away from the flue and be separated from the liner so both can move. Most of these are a flat pour laid tight against the flue, which cracks within a couple of decades.

Where does water from a cracked crown go?

Into the chimney itself and then into the house. It soaks into the brickwork and runs down inside the stack, appearing as staining on the ceiling or wall where the chimney passes through, and as damp plaster beside a fireplace. None of that looks like a roof problem, which is why it is missed.

Is recasting one a large job?

It is modest as masonry work goes, and it is worth doing properly rather than patching. A new crown with an overhang, a drip and a flexible joint around the flue will last decades. Sealing a cracked one buys a season or two, and the water carries on going into the stack in the meantime.
