Groundwater & Basement Water Intrusion in Newport, RI

Basement seepage, failed sumps and water through the slab are extracted and dried, and the path from the ground is found so the floor stays dry next season. The path from the ground is named first: through the wall, up through the slab, back through a drain, or from a sump that stopped. The space is extracted and dried, with the porous materials the water touched removed, and the delivery is addressed, because a dried floor only stays dry if the water stops arriving.

Often needed alongside

  • Structural Drying & Dehumidification

Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.

  • Emergency Water Extraction

Standing water is pumped and extracted around the clock, before it climbs the walls and soaks the subfloor. Same-day response where coverage allows.

  • Mold Inspection & Testing

An independent assessor confirms whether the assembly that got wet is actually dry, whether growth started while it was not, and how far it reaches.

Frequently asked questions

Why do these floors behave differently?

Because of their width and their age. A wide board moves across the grain in proportion to its width, so what would be a hairline gap in a modern strip floor is a quarter inch here, and cupping is pronounced. The timber itself is old growth, which is denser and slower to give moisture back.

Should a wet one be taken up?

Almost never as a first move. Boards of this kind are irreplaceable and they frequently flatten out once they have dried slowly and evenly. The right approach is patient drying from above and below with the moisture monitored, and a decision about individual boards taken weeks later rather than in the first days.

What about what is under them?

That is where the attention belongs. With no subfloor, anything that passed between the boards is on the joists, and in a house of this age those are frequently accessible from below. Drying the structure properly is what determines whether the floor above it can be saved.
