Ceiling & Roof Leak Water Damage Repair in Pittsburgh, PA
The leak is traced above the stain and corrected, wet insulation comes out, the cavity is dried to a reading, and only then is the ceiling repaired. The leak is traced uphill from the stain and corrected before anything else. Soaked insulation comes out of the cavity, the framing and the back of the ceiling are dried and read to the dry standard, and only then is the ceiling repaired and painted, so the stain does not return through new paint.
No obligation: the assessment comes before any scope
Often needed alongside
- Structural Drying & Dehumidification
Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.
- Mold Inspection & Testing
An independent assessor confirms whether the assembly that got wet is actually dry, whether growth started while it was not, and how far it reaches.
Frequently asked questions
What are the bearing pockets and why do they matter?
They are the gaps in the masonry where floor joists sit. Water that reaches a basement wall runs into those pockets and soaks the end grain of the joist, which is buried in brick and cannot be dried from the room. The ceiling or the wall is opened at the bearing so the ends can be read and dried directly; closing up without that leaves wet wood inside the wall.
Why is a narrow deep basement slower to dry?
Because there is masonry on both sides, very little air movement and no outside wall to work with. The brick holds water deep in the wall and releases it slowly through the face, and a narrow room does not move air across it on its own. Equipment is placed to force movement along both walls rather than into the middle of the floor.
Does the neighbor's house need to be looked at?
Often, when the joists bear into the wall between. Water in a shared masonry wall is in both buildings by definition, and the joist ends on the other side are wet even though nothing there has been reported. Readings are taken on both sides where access allows, and the opening follows the wet framing rather than the property line.
