Ceiling & Roof Leak Water Damage Repair in Farrell, PA

The leak is traced above the stain and corrected, wet insulation comes out, the cavity is dried to a reading, and only then is the ceiling repaired. The leak is traced uphill from the stain and corrected before anything else. Soaked insulation comes out of the cavity, the framing and the back of the ceiling are dried and read to the dry standard, and only then is the ceiling repaired and painted, so the stain does not return through new paint.

Frequently asked questions

Why does this block hold so much more water?

Because of what it is made from. These units were cast using slag from the mills instead of stone aggregate, which leaves a coarser, more open material that takes water into its body rather than shedding it. The same wall built in ordinary concrete block would absorb a small fraction of it.

Does that change how long a basement takes?

It lengthens it, often by a week or more. The water is in the material itself rather than sitting in the cores, so it has to come out through the face of the block slowly and from one side only. A room that looks finished can still be feeding moisture back into the air for days.

Is summer or winter better for this?

Winter, by a clear margin, which is awkward because the heaviest rain is in July. In the warm months the outdoor air gives nothing back and the wall releases into air that is already loaded. In the heating season the indoor air is dry and the same wall comes down noticeably faster.
