Storm & Flood Damage Recovery in New Albany, OH

The opening is closed, the water is extracted, materials floodwater touched come out, and the structure is dried and rebuilt in that order. The opening is closed first, with tarps or board-up, so the building stops taking on water. Floodwater is extracted, and the porous materials it touched come out rather than dry, since it crossed ground outside. The structure is dried and re-read, and the rebuild waits until the readings and the roof both allow it.

Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.

  • Sewage & Contaminated Water Cleanup

Sewage and black-water losses are contained, the materials the water touched are removed and disposed of, hard surfaces are disinfected, and the space is dried to a reading.

Frequently asked questions

How does a torn membrane show up?

As flooring that fails without a leak. Vapor comes up through the slab where the barrier is broken and collects under whatever is laid on top, so adhesive releases, boards cup and a patch of floor lifts. There is no water anywhere, and the pattern rarely matches anything above the floor.

Why are so many of them damaged?

Because everything that happens between laying the sheet and pouring the concrete happens on top of it. Reinforcement, plumbing, boots and boards all go over the membrane, and punctures at those points are ordinary unless somebody is inspecting for them. The concrete then covers whatever state it was left in.

Can anything be done after the fact?

Not to the membrane, but the floor can be managed. A moisture test on the slab before any new covering goes down tells you what you are dealing with, and coverings and adhesives rated for that level exist. Laying an ordinary floor over a slab that is passing vapor simply repeats the failure.
