Sewage & Contaminated Water Cleanup in Hartford (Croton), OH

Sewage and black-water losses are contained, the materials the water touched are removed and disposed of, hard surfaces are disinfected, and the space is dried to a reading. The affected area is sealed off from the rest of the house. Porous materials the water reached come out and are bagged, with drywall cut to a margin above the visible line; hard surfaces are cleaned and disinfected. The space is then dried and read, and the containment comes down only when cleaning and drying are both finished.

No obligation: the assessment comes before any scope

Frequently asked questions

Why do the downspouts go into the ground here?

Because the house was built to collect its own water. Before anything was piped in, the roof was the supply, and the downspouts fed a cistern set into the ground beside the building. Most of those are no longer used, but the downspouts still run to them.

What happens when the cistern fails?

It becomes the opposite of what it was. A cracked or abandoned tank still receives everything the roof collects and then lets it into the ground beside the foundation, so the house is deliberately delivering its roof water to its own footing. Nothing about that is visible.

What is the sensible thing to do with it?

Take the downspouts off it and run them clear of the building, which is straightforward once somebody knows the cistern is there. Whether the tank itself is filled or left is a separate question; stopping the roof feeding it is the part that matters for the house.
