Groundwater & Basement Water Intrusion in Elmira, NY
Basement seepage, failed sumps and water through the slab are extracted and dried, and the path from the ground is found so the floor stays dry next season. The path from the ground is named first: through the wall, up through the slab, back through a drain, or from a sump that stopped. The space is extracted and dried, with the porous materials the water touched removed, and the delivery is addressed, because a dried floor only stays dry if the water stops arriving.

Often needed alongside
- Structural Drying & Dehumidification
Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.
- Emergency Water Extraction
Standing water is pumped and extracted around the clock, before it climbs the walls and soaks the subfloor. Same-day response where coverage allows.
- Mold Inspection & Testing
An independent assessor confirms whether the assembly that got wet is actually dry, whether growth started while it was not, and how far it reaches.
Frequently asked questions
Why does this kind of porch floor fail?
Because it was designed to be sealed and rarely still is. The boards are laid tight so that the surface reads as one plane, which means water cannot drain between them the way it would through a modern spaced deck. Once the paint film breaks, each joint takes water in and holds it against end grain.
What is underneath that is at risk?
The joists and the beam carrying them, and frequently the band of the house wall they are framed into. Water held in the floor goes straight down into that framing, and because a porch is outside the heated envelope, nothing dries it. Soft boards are usually a sign the structure below has been wet for years.
Is replacing boards enough?
Only if the framing under them is sound, and that has to be checked rather than assumed. Laying a new floor over decayed joists puts the same water into the same timber. Where the structure is good, new boards and a properly maintained paint film will last decades, which is why so many of these are still here.
