Does boarding like this flatten out again?
Some of it does, if it is dried before the swelling sets. Each board expands across its width and presses on the one beside it, and where that pressure has cupped or lifted a joint the timber does not go back on its own. Boards dried within the first days usually settle; boards left tight for weeks are refinished or replaced.
What is behind the boarding?
