After the drying
Mold Inspection & Testing in Norridge, IL
An independent assessor confirms whether the assembly that got wet is actually dry, whether growth started while it was not, and how far it reaches. An inspection after a water loss confirms whether the assembly that got wet is dry now and whether growth started while it was not. Readings are taken in the material, cavities are opened where the readings point, and the result is a written scope of what is dry, what is not, and what has to be corrected for the repair to hold.

On this site, inspection is the last check of a water job rather than the start of a separate one. Most people reach this page because something was wet, was dried, and a smell or a stain came back. The inspection answers whether the material is dry now and whether anything grew while it was not. Nothing here is medical advice; questions about health are for a clinician.
Often needed alongside

- Structural Drying & Dehumidification
Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.
Frequently asked questions
Why is nothing being vented to the outside down here?
Because there is nothing to vent through. The basement openings are fixed glass block, so there is no window to open and no practical route for ducting other than the stair. The space is sealed deliberately and the moisture is condensed out by machine, which is slower to start and entirely reliable once it is running.
Does that make a basement loss here longer than usual?
Somewhat, and predictably so. Places where a window can be opened on a dry winter day get some free drying; this one never does. Against that, a sealed space holds its conditions well, so once the equipment is sized properly the readings fall steadily. Eight to twelve days is the normal expectation.
Is August the worst month for a basement here?
It is the least helpful. The heaviest rain of the year arrives when the outside air is at its most humid and the basement floor is at its coldest relative to it, so even if a window existed, opening it would put moisture onto the concrete. From November the heating system quietly improves everything.
