Storm & Flood Damage Recovery in Waipahu, HI
The opening is closed, the water is extracted, materials floodwater touched come out, and the structure is dried and rebuilt in that order. The opening is closed first, with tarps or board-up, so the building stops taking on water. Floodwater is extracted, and the porous materials it touched come out rather than dry, since it crossed ground outside. The structure is dried and re-read, and the rebuild waits until the readings and the roof both allow it.
No obligation: the assessment comes before any scope
Often needed alongside
- Emergency Water Extraction
Standing water is pumped and extracted around the clock, before it climbs the walls and soaks the subfloor. Same-day response where coverage allows.
- Structural Drying & Dehumidification
Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.
- Sewage & Contaminated Water Cleanup
Sewage and black-water losses are contained, the materials the water touched are removed and disposed of, hard surfaces are disinfected, and the space is dried to a reading.
Frequently asked questions
What comes out of a wall with no cavity?
Nothing, which changes the whole approach. There is no board to strip and no insulation to pull, because the timber is the wall: structure, inside face and outside face in one thickness. The drying is done on that board from both sides, and where it has gone soft the section is cut out and replaced.
Is that better or worse after a loss?
Better in some ways. There is no hidden cavity holding water where nobody can see it, and both faces of the material are accessible from the start, which is more than most walls offer. The difficulty is that any material that does not recover is structural, so replacement is a bigger piece of work.
Does the time of year change anything here?
Very little, and that is unusual. The coolest month still has lows in the sixties and there is no dry season to wait for, so conditions in March and September are close enough that the plan does not change. Every job is dried mechanically, because the building will not do any of it unaided.
