After the drying
Mold Inspection & Testing in Holyoke, MA
An independent assessor confirms whether the assembly that got wet is actually dry, whether growth started while it was not, and how far it reaches. An inspection after a water loss confirms whether the assembly that got wet is dry now and whether growth started while it was not. Readings are taken in the material, cavities are opened where the readings point, and the result is a written scope of what is dry, what is not, and what has to be corrected for the repair to hold.
No obligation: the assessment comes before any scope
On this site, inspection is the last check of a water job rather than the start of a separate one. Most people reach this page because something was wet, was dried, and a smell or a stain came back. The inspection answers whether the material is dry now and whether anything grew while it was not. Nothing here is medical advice; questions about health are for a clinician.
Often needed alongside
- Mold Remediation
Growth and the material it grew into come out under containment, what remains is cleaned, and the assembly is dried and read before anything closes it in.
- Structural Drying & Dehumidification
Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.
Frequently asked questions
The roof drain backed up and the water came down inside. What is opened?
The chase the leader runs in, at every floor it passes. An internal drain that backs up discharges into the building rather than off it, so the water follows the pipe down through closed chases and wets framing at each level with nothing visible between. The chase is opened where readings call for it, which is usually more floors than the ceiling stain suggests.
Why is a flat roof worse than a pitched one here?
Because water sits rather than runs. A parapet holds it on the roof until a drain takes it, so a blockage turns the roof into a shallow reservoir above occupied space, and the load finds any opening. The drying job is the same once it is inside, but the amount that arrives before anyone notices is usually far greater.
The loss was in October. Does the timing matter?
It compresses everything. October is the wettest month here and a five-month freeze follows within weeks, so there is a short stretch to finish in before the building closes up and cools. Once the heating is running the dry indoor air does help, but anything left damp when the cold sets in stays damp for a long time.
