Mold Removal & Remediation in Birmingham, AL

Growth and the material it grew into come out under containment, what remains is cleaned, and the assembly is dried and read before anything closes it in. The area is sealed and put under negative air, affected porous material comes out, and what remains is cleaned and treated. The assembly is then dried and read to the same standard as any water loss before it is closed, because remediation over a still-wet assembly puts the same growth back behind new drywall.

Quoted on site by the contractor who visits

Remediation here is the tail of a water job: growth is what an unfinished drying leaves behind, and removing it without finishing the drying puts it back. The contractor establishes how far the growth extends and what moisture is still feeding it, removes what grew, and dries and reads the assembly before it is closed. The service note below covers the sequence in this city.

Often needed alongside

  • Mold Inspection & Testing

An independent assessor confirms whether the assembly that got wet is actually dry, whether growth started while it was not, and how far it reaches.

  • Structural Drying & Dehumidification

Sealed air movers and dehumidifiers bring framing, subfloor and drywall back to a measured dry standard, with daily readings logged from inside the material.

Frequently asked questions

What does a hollow sound in a plastered wall indicate?

That the finish coat has let go of its backing. Here the plaster is carried on gypsum board rather than wood strapping, and when that board softens it releases the coat while the plaster itself stays hard. Tapping along the wet run maps the separation, which is usually wider than anything visible on the face.

Can this kind of wall be dried in place?

Sometimes, if it is caught early and the backing has not softened. The test is mechanical rather than a reading: where the plaster still sounds solid against its backing it is dried and watched, and where it has separated it comes off, because a coat that has lost its bond will not re-attach however dry it gets.

Why is the decision made so early?

Because the season works against waiting. The wettest months here are warm with no freeze anywhere in the year, so a wall dries slowly and spends longer in the condition that causes separation. Leaving a marginal wall to see what happens usually turns a section that could have been dried into one that has to come off.
